The Bible

Yes, it is a significant historical artefact. Yes, the Christian world has been shaped by many reinterpretations of the four Gospels. Yes, the message of the Bible that there is a God of kindness who loves you and sacrificed his only son for you is significant.

However.

It is boring. There were forty gospels written and every single time a new one pops up they are decried as heresy by a religious bureaucracy whose hold on power is defined by it's ability to control the strict interpretation of it's most significant text. The Bible is not the spiritual reality and meaning of God any more than the word "water" is itself wet. Dependency on a single, simple (and soporific) text and a strict adherence and focus on this text is akin to a psychotic state of mind which does little to help alleviate suffering or spread the message of Christian love and kindness.

My Review: The Bible - 1 sheep out of 5 for reading material's sake. 5 crucifixes out of 5 for true believers and for the historical significance of the text. 4 morons out of 5 for the degree to which it has spawned rampant ignorance due to the inability of so many to see beyond the words to their actual meanings. 5 intolerant lunatics out of 5 for the inability of so many to accept other interpretations of their religion because of the narrow interpretations they have been brainwashed with.
