Violent Non-Violence: Tibet protest turns violent in Sydney

In response to the Chinese authorities' brutal crackdown on fierce pro-independence riots in Tibet, there has been a protest at the Chinese consulate in Sydney today. An Asian plain clothes police officer was mistaken for a member of the Chinese consulate staff and was "spat on, pushed and shoved and hit on the head with protest signs." I wonder if he was hit with the sign which was photographed at the rally and is pictured above. (link).

Come to think of it, if I was Tibetan and aware of the dozens of people being killed by the Chinese authorities and the various other repressive mechanisms of invasion and occupation being wielded at the moment - I would be pretty pissed off too. This doesn't in any way detract from the bittersweet irony manifest in violent non-violence.
